Just found your blog on DIY Showoff and love what you've done! We want to install a pocket door too but I'm afraid of retexturing--I can't tell from the photo but did you "knock-down" the texture after spraying? Or does the DIY stuff stay lumpier? I need the courage to take on this project knowing we'd be able to get "professional" results w/o paying for it. :) Thanks for any info.
Yes I knockdown the texture. I have bought in the past for small fixes a few of the easy knockdown texture cans, but had a big area to do and was cheaper to buy a texture gun. I just practices some until I got the look I wanted THEN sprayed the walls. You have to wait a little after you spray to "knockdown" or you will just smear it all together. That's why I left one side of the sheet rock up; I did not want to have to match the existing texture. The other side in the laundry room did not have any texture so I was already planning on texturing the whole room in there.
